Are you bilingual?

        Even if most of the languages have been developing all the time and it’s hard to measure comprehensive and communicative skills, here I am showing you “How to measure bilingualism?”

If you want to know whether you’re bilingual, there are three types of bilingual measurement which are formal measurements, informal measurements, and the other types.
1.    Formal measurements;
    It may be good tools in terms of taking a short time but some test may be examining only cognitive skills (grammar and vocabulary) instead of bilingualism and the data are collected under pressure.
·        Traditional measurements
It is bilingual measurement method, which is examined, would be to see how bilinguals perform in both languages in a range of real communicative situations. Tested bilingual L1 and L2 linguistic proficiencies in smaller components such as grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary and compared the results with monolingual norms.
·        Behavioral measurements
It is a test that designed to directly comparing the two language balance. If a person is bilingual, his/her performance would be the same whatever the language used in performing the task. There are three types of test--which contain a reaction-time measurement test, word-completion task, and reading aloud a list of languages words.

2.   Informal measurements
It gathers data by using a language background questionnaires. These data represent reality because they are collected where bilinguals are under some psychological pressure, or whether some tests may be examining their cognitive skills, or at worst, test-taking skills instead of bilingualism.

3.   The other types
Phycologists have developed different kinds of speed test and tests to measure automatic functions: how fluently a speaker speaks, how quickly she switches languages, how flexible she is, and to what extent one of the two languages dominates.
These include portfolio assessment where individuals collect a number of sample of their work which demonstrates their language ability.
